Kalmar at TOC Europe 2019: Together for an eco-efficient future

2019 Trade press

CARGOTEC CORPORATION, TRADE PRESS RELEASE, 10 JUNE 2019 AT 1 PM (EEST)

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, will focus on driving the eco-efficiency of terminal operations at this year's TOC Europe, which will be held in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, on 18-20 June 2019. Kalmar will be showcasing its entire Eco Range - a wide portfolio of products and services that are designed to cut emissions in cargo handling operations. Several demos and collaborative sessions will be organised at the Kalmar stand to highlight the theme "Together for an eco-efficient future".

Kalmar has been developing eco-efficient, electrically powered solutions since the 1990s, and last year the company made a bold committed to have its entire portfolio available as electrically powered versions by 2021. "We are progressing well with this commitment to make our industry cleaner, more efficient and sustainable. At TOC Europe, we want to showcase our products, services and technologies that are shaping the industry and all serving this purpose," says Maija Eklöf, VP Marketing and Communications at Kalmar.

"At the same time, we are challenging our own employees, customers and partners to contribute to the same goal: a better future for us all. We have initiated #MyEcoMove campaign, which aims at getting as many people as possible on board to join in and share their small eco moves on social media. We realise that only together we can work towards an eco-efficient future. At TOC Europe, we will also launch our first manifesto in a series of short movies," Maija continues.

The eco theme will be highlighted with several demos and activities at the Kalmar stand:

In the demo "Going electric step by step" we will be discussing different options to reduce emissions in terminal operations by fostering eco-efficient technologies. We will present different scenarios of terminal layout and design and showcase the possible reductions in CO2 levels by choosing the optimal technology and equipment. Kalmar's entire Eco Range will be at display in digital format, including the latest addition of Kalmar Medium Electric Forklift powered by lithium-ion battery technology.

Kalmar Electric Terminal Tractor and its battery technology will be highlighted at TOC Europe utilising a state of the art hologram screen, and Kalmar experts will discuss the journey towards all-electric distribution and container handling in the session.

Kalmar is making eco-efficiency at work at the "Powering the port of the future" demo, where visitors will have a chance to generate energy to a Kalmar FastCharge AutoStrad(TM) from a sustainable source. Kalmar experts will also demonstrate how produced energy can be stored and utilised at the right time. The solution enables an optimised smart grid that helps terminals improve their energy management by storing energy to a buffer that can be used later on as needed.

In addition, Kalmar will continue driving openness and collaboration by inviting customers and partners to join the MyKalmar Challenge and the development of MyKalmar customer portal by utilising gamification as a way to collect customer input and ideas for the development of the MyKalmar user interface and different functionalities.

Kalmar experts together with the invited customers will be speaking at the TECH TOC conference in the following sessions:

Wednesday 19 June

14:00-15:30 AUTOMATION: PART 2

Timo Alho, Vice President, Terminal Design Services, Kalmar: Holistic approach to container terminal productivity with the help of decoupled horizontal transportation
